I was introduced to Ham Polo Club via a friend and joined as a social member at first, whilst also having lessons. The club house which had a bit of a revamp this year is a lovely setting to watch the action whilst enjoying a delicious meal, and the regular crowd and staff are so so welcoming.

After a summer of lessons at Ham with their coach, followed by trips to Argentina and Sotogrande with groups from Ham in February and March, I had mastered enough of the game to join instructionals this year. Covid in some respects was an opportunity, as it meant that I moved up to chukkas more quickly, so ended the season playing tournaments which was thrilling. I even bought my first polo pony having been well and truly hooked (pun intended). Playing this year gave me the opportunity to get to know the club much better, and I have made friendships that I am sure will last a lifetime. Such a wonderful group of people.

I always feel as though I am in an oasis, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of London when I visit Ham. The setting is peaceful, the horses so beautiful and well cared for by the excellent grooms, the people so friendly - I would recommend.
